The good news… I created a similar Serena & Lily look for less than half the price. Just find an inspirational room design and redo it based on what you can afford...like I did below :). I think we would all love to buy the beautiful Serena & Lily sofa and the equally beautiful chairs and counter stools, BUT the price just isn't realistic for many of us. I created this family room makeover to show you that YOU can do it with ANY look you like. The stools don't have all the details of our inspired stool BUT the lines are the same and you get the woven textured look. This Pottery Barn Cameron Square Arm Sofa is a fraction of the cost of the Serena & Lily option. The floor lamp, table lamp (similar) and hanging pendant (similar) also cost a fraction of the cost. ), and prefer a soft, fluffy beanbag for your babies to bump their heads on, so I took the liberty of having this change made in the room again. CONCLUSION

The Serena & Lily Inspiration bedroom is GORGEOUS! However, it costs about $14,000 in total (depending on fabrics and pillows). If I went high/low in this case, I'd splurge on the sofa and chairs…and save on the rug and lighting.

Our house still has a lot of builder grade lights to replace and my office has no overhead lights (definitely something we will add when it comes time to renovate). We slowly updated the lighting throughout our house a little at a time, and I knew taking advantage of Memorial Day sales would save me money. Since we haven't remodeled my office yet (other than the floor), my goal was to find a floor lamp that would work in the current space, as well as post-renovation… whenever that happens. I've loved this vintage looking "plaster" lamp (shown in the intro) for YEARS and knew it would stand the test of time through the various phases of my home office. Long story short, the lamp lived in my office for a few days, before I decided to test it out in the basement living room (just because). Now I feel like I have to order another lamp because I love seeing it in my office every day, but it looks amazing in the basement...like it was made for this space. Another boob lamp lived right there, and we replaced it with a very classic semi-flush fixture. I wish I had an endless budget to update all of our lighting right now because there are so many great options. As for my new polished nickel fixtures (#9 and #22), I opted for this particular finish because we have a lot of brass in our formal living room. Rather than adding another brass fixture to the equation, I prefer a mixed metal aesthetic…so nickel made perfect sense to bridge the gap between the living room and the basement. I also wanted the hall light and the basement stairwell light fixtures to match, in terms of finish. At this point, I'm just happy to see a stylistic flush mount there instead of a boob light… baby steps. Since we have a LOT of homes left to renovate, I try to find smart fixtures that work well now, but can also be used after the renovation is complete.
